Look Up

A few weeks ago, I decided to take a much needed girls trip to Grand Junction, Colorado. I had one of those experiences that you know you are never going to forget.  Fruita, Colorado is my hometown and will always have a special place in my heart. Fruita is about thirty minutes from downtown Grand Junction, one of my favorite places on earth. I love going and looking at all the art galleries, antique stores, and eating all the great food. Maybe I am weird this way but I do not mind going alone. I am a deal shopper so people generally don’t like to spend as much time shopping as I do. Going alone allows me to take my time.

A few nights before I was going to leave I had a feeling that I should not go to downtown Grand Junction. I shrugged it off. I was way too excited not to go. I had spent the week planning on what shops I was going to and where I was going to eat. I sang the whole ride there and when I arrived I was on cloud nine.

After my sister did my hair I headed towards downtown. I found my favorite parking spot and got out of my car. It was such a beautiful day. The weather was perfect and the spring buds where just beginning to pop out of the trees. I wandered into a milkshake shop. As I was waiting for my cream sickle shake (yes it was as good as it sounds) I observe the people around me. A grandma and her grandchildren enjoying the spring afternoon. Two sisters and their little ones having a cold treat together. The man in the booth staring out the window. As I left the man who had been sitting at the both opened the door for me. I noticed he was a little scraggly but that was not uncommon to see in Downtown Grand Junction.

I started heading towards the best antique store in the world. It was about three blocks from the milkshake shop. I went in and was looking at a plate display when the words came small but clear “look up.” When I looked up from the plate display the scraggly man and I locked eyes across the room and he quickly looked away. I started moving through the store and I realized this man was following me. Luckily, I had been here before and new there was a side exit through a sandwich shop. I quickly left. I got my pepper spray ready and fast walked to my car. Occasionally looking back to make sure he wasn’t behind me.

Isn’t it wonderful to be blissfully ignorant? I strongly believe the holy ghost helped me that day.

If I hadn’t heard the whisper to look up I would have never known that man was following me. I didn’t know he was following me for three blocks. I have always known that I have the gift of the holy ghost but I have never had an experience quite like that before. When I got in the car I almost couldn’t believe what happened. I could have saved myself a lot of panic if I had just listened the first time but I guess that is something I can work on.

Have you ever had an experience similar? I would love to hear it.
